The Padre Island National Seashore

Do you like islands? Well you're in luck because the next tourist place I'm going to tell you about is the Padre Island National Seashore. The Padre Island National Seashore is the world's longest undeveloped barrier island. The drive to this seashore is a short drive south from Corpus Christi. Did you know that this island is 70 miles long? Wow! That's a lot of island! Speaking distance, the Padre Island also consists of more than 130,000 acre of beach, dunes, and grass land habitats, which is home to rare sea turtles and countless migratory birds. If you go to Texas and want to go to the Padre Island National Seashore, the Malaquite Visitor Center is a great place to begin. It provides plenty of information and assistance for people with mobility issues including special adapted beach wheelchairs.

The Alamo

The last tourist place I'm going to tell you about is the Alamo. The Alamo is an important historic site in America. The Alamo was established in 1718, and was built by Franciscans in 1744. But, by 1836 it had been converted into a fort. The Alamo became famous during Texas Revolution when a small force, including Davie Crockett and James Bowie, barricaded themselves in against an overwhelmingly superior Mexican army. The army was 3,000 strong. When defeat saw all 187 defenders killed, the cry of "Remember the Alamo" rallied the state to eventually overcome the Mexicans! Today at the Alamo museum you can see artifacts from that battle.
